I stayed overnight with The FLY Morning Rush at the Olde Knox Mansion in Johnstown NY for their 5th Annual Haunted Broadcast. This picture was taken by Brian Cody right before we went into the basement to "see dead people." I said it then, and I'm sayin it now, Yah'll Is Crazy!

There is audio of a "spirit" saying honky. The "spirit" said honky because no other race of folks mess with ghosts. I was the only black person there and my cell phone didn't work! Just because you watch horror movies doesn't mean you want to be in one! Lawd!

The good part is no one got slayed and no white girl's fell while running. I still say, Yah'll Is Crazy!

3. Why should the world take notice of you? - The world needs to take notice of the word of God and live according to Biblical principles. I am only noteworthy in how I help others cease their suffering. I try my best to do that with my writing. I tell my story, and the triumphs of my story, so that others will know that pain, any pain, is survivable and does not have to kill us. The Lord is there for us specifically during times of trial. On July 27th, 2010, I was faced with no place to live and no source of income. Today, August 12th, not two full weeks later, I have two business opportunities and a home until I start bringing in regular paychecks. If that isn't God being there for me in time of trial, I don't know what is! Be encouraged!!!!


4. Do you like a man that's hard-boiled (take charge) or soft scrambled (yes dear)? - I like a man who says "Yes, Dear" when he means it, but who is no pushover. Gentle, but not weak.

When in doubt, pray.
When rejoicing, praise the Lord.
Before asking, give thanks.
When tears come, think about whom you can help.
And when you really need to cry, let yourself. Tears are cleansing and often necessary.
Forgive in ways that cause you no further pain. Distance is not always a bad thing.
Love without bound and be optimistic. Your perspective really does effect your reality.

8. Do you forgive regardless of what someone has done to you? - No. I am a bit like the elephant; I don’t forget. When I find it hard to forgive someone, I begin to pray about it, and often I find that I move toward forgiveness without knowing it. This is one area in which I am not perfect, but awareness of it means I turn to prayer to address my imperfections.


9. If you could change your past would you? - No. My past has made me sensitive to and understanding of the pain of others. It is also the one thing that helped me understand the pain of my beloved. We had similar wounds and this allowed us to trust each other more easily and made it easier for him to reveal long-suffering that he had not shared with others.


10. Your life is on the big screen. What is it rated and why? - R. I've been through a lot and seen much, and I would want the unvarnished truth told so that others are helped and know that they are not alone. That is the one goal of my writing: to convince those suffering that they are not alone, that someone else has been through it before them and survived it, and that there is a silver lining, a reward, a good life awaiting those who persevere.

What You Thought You Knew...

There is a story circulating, maybe, probably not, about a 14 year old girl named Emma Charles. Supposedly Emma was repeatedly gang raped by 25 African American Soldiers for 6 weeks every day and night in Burma in 1947. Supposedly she lost her womb and committed suicide. Supposedly Emma said that, "all niggers should be drowned at birth." Supposedly her mother offered herself up instead and was thrown on a bonfire. Supposedly what you thought you knew is not what you know.

Is this our history? Is this true? Is this a tale from someone's imagination set free to cause havoc on our psyche? Is this an actual quote from a book or a movie? Has the victim's name been changed to protect her identity? Are there any Burmese women named Emma Charles? Or, could this be a spoonful of the crock of shit that has slow cooked race wars for years?

The sentence was a post made on Facebook. My first thought was that since it was from someone who is the organizer of a writing group, that it was a quote from a book. We know our history and if you are an author or reader, you may have written or read something like this. After seeing the reaction that is caused I had to know and went in search of Emma Charles. Curiosity only kills cats that don’t know how to handle the information they receive.

Emma Charles did come up in a search, but there was nothing listing her as an author or saying the quote she is linked with. Maybe she did say it in her time and her words have been passed on by her ancestors. Maybe she is a fictional character created for this rouse. I asked the person who posted the quote and was told that they receive quotes daily and wasn't sure where it came from. They did say that they didn't know if Emma Charles was still alive or dead. To all the women named Emma Charles, I apologize that your name was chosen for this. I didn't see the original post but with copy and paste not much is private anymore.

Some folks always say, “If I were you…”, “If I was a slave…,” “Oh that would never happen to me….” If a slave could send you a text message what do you think it would say? We post quotes daily from people we never met. People that lived in another era and people of different races. Inspirational words, words to make you think, words of power. Maybe they quoted words the day before that never made it to print. Maybe they said a racial epithet. Since you didn’t hear it it’s okay to go ahead and promote their beliefs anyway. What you thought you knew…

I wonder how many sites there are that spew hate about Mexican's, Jewish people or Caucasians. A racial epithet is a racial epithet. There is no level or one is no worse than the other if it's hurled at a human. It has the same meaning whether it’s said to hurt you or not. I can say it but you can't....oh, I didn't mean it that way. We pick and choose what situation we want to get mad at. We get mad when we talk about each other and mad when others talk about us. We can't change our history and are all living our future generation's history. When things are documented in print regardless if its 1922 or 1992 it was the time and it was the era. Don't get upset - get educated.

We have gone from slavery to riots to boycotts and now the delete key. The individual who posted the "quote" was reported to Facebook. He was removed by some users from their friends list. Deleted. Will we join together to boycott Facebook if the individual is not removed? Will we boycott the Internet for allowing hateful websites to exist? So many people have died in order for us to get mad, bark a little and hit delete. What will we do for the next generation?

I read a post from someone that said the creator of Facebook was an Atheist. The poster said they are a Christian. Did they remove themselves from Facebook? No. I read posts from people that use the N-word in their daily talking. Many of us are on the same lists. Was the person deleted? Did you tell them how you felt? Or was it okay because they didn't mean it like "that?"

I watch two African American Networks – BET and TVOne. They have shown movies in which the curse words are silenced, but the word nigger is spoken and heard. Was the choice made to leave the word in because it made the movie more enjoyable? We get upset when someone else blasts us with ignorance yet we hail some singers/rappers as the greatest when they put the word on top of a beat. Oh, you like the rest of the song but not that part? Oh…Racism within the race is okay I guess.

There is no denying that racism is gettin' it in 2010. The quote that was posted for whatever reason was hateful. If it came from a book or a movie I’m sure it got the point across to the reader or viewer. If it was someone letting the world know how they felt the folks who read it got it. Where it originated from and why may never be known. I'm using the N-word in my next book that is set in the 60's South. Will I be banned or is it okay because I'm black? What will we do? When did freedom of speech free us from going from action to growling? Oh, since we can say what we want we don’t have to do anything. How many of us have the M-I-S-T-E-R PERIOD mentality? Does the man/woman in the mirror crack when you look at him/her?

What you thought you knew about yourself is changed when you learn just how far you are willing to go in a situation. Do I want to stop using the Internet after what I have learned? No. Does this mean that I support the sites I found? Am I a disgrace to my ancestors? Is complaining about the use of a word, but not doing anything to stop it the same as supporting it? If a dogs bark is worse than its bite people with hatred in their heart have nothing to worry about.

Staying in your group, gangs, neighborhood or social circle is how it's always been. Complain to those around you and talk about the folks who don’t agree with you. People are killed, abused and insulted everyday. If we continue to do the least we can do then that’s all we'll ever do. To the person who originated this I thank you. You did what you intended - dissension among the ranks and then a kiss and make up session.

Evaluate yourself. Question yourself. Are you willing to die for a cause? Are you content with voicing your opinion and gaining ground with your supporters and then going back to your “regular” life? I wrote a Blog about it using the same outlet as people with hate in their heart? What else will I do? Can you live without Social Media? Ask your ancestors what they lived without. If you never had it does it even matter? The N-Word; will it ever go away? Your answers aren't for me to know, but are they What You Thought You Knew…

Is Your Change Adding Up?

It’s been said that time heals all wounds. I don't think it’s the time alone that heals, but the changes and motion, whether forward or back, that's the medicine. For me it's been forward motion that has my life on the plus side.


The last two years I've struggled with my emotions regarding the death of my father. Hard, evil, angry, miserable - if it equals the word ugly I've felt it. It’s not a good thing, but we all go through it. Death kills us emotionally and then brings us back to Life. Some people live their life to die. Plan for retirement - don't live for it. Plan to live to a fruitful old age - don't hope to live until you're old.

A few weeks after my father died I had a dream about rats and some other stuff that made no sense. My dreams about him always contained a memory of him, but he was never in the dream. Last night I had a dream and he was there. I was in a kitchen and was serving lemon cookies to two of the kids that starred in the Everybody Hates Chris Show. I think the cookies were lemon because two days earlier I bought an Entenmanns Lemon Crunch Cake. Weird. It was the girl, Tanya and the boy, Drew. We were talking about school and teenage stuff. My father was standing by the side of the table and took a few cookies off the plates and ate them. He was smiling and laughing, but I couldn't hear his voice and he never said anything.

When I woke up I remembered the dream and that he was there! My father was in my dream! He was happy and healthy. He had on his glasses and looked just like my daddy. I thought of the times when I was a teenager and would bake cookies. He would come pick a few off the plate and keep walking into the living room to watch TV. I had a hard time remembering good things until lately.

There has been so much forward motion in my life since 2008. Positive motion. I'm still working on financial stability, but my change is adding up. When you step out on faith you step into you. I miss my daddy. I may have pennies in my change purse, but those pennies are adding up to my IT.

Think about who you are, what you want and what you do. Think about the changes you’ve made or are willing to make to get it. A small change is the catapult for greatness. My dream made me realize that I’m getting there. I’m hurt that my father isn’t here, but I’m living. I’m changing and becoming a better person. At the end of each day I don’t feel that my change drawer is short. I can turn in and know that I’ve done good…I’ve done real good. Do your life math; Is Your Change Adding Up?

1.Who is Rico Salam? - Rico Salam is an up and coming author from West Philadelphia who is striving to give young black men from the urban community a different image in the sight of America. Unfortunately my childhood wasn’t what you would call the best upbringing. I was brought up and raised in a house hold full of alcoholics and drug addicts. So people thought my future was ruined from day one. However my plans were different. I knew if anyone was going to make a change in my family then it had to be me. So I stayed in school and became the first person in my family to ever graduate. After that I enrolled in college and earned a degree in business management. This is when I realized there wasn’t anything I couldn’t do, so I decided to write my first novel “GET MINE OR GET NAKED”.

I’m far from being rich or famous but I come a long way from being the little boy who grew up in a crack house. 4.What is your favorite chick flavor? A meaty ham, a juicy pork-chop, or a fat free chicken? - Well I don’t eat pork, so the ham is out of the question. And a fat free chicken is just not enough to satisfy a brother. So I’ll say I like mine nice and beefy, but I don’t want the whole cow.

5.What are your life rules? - I’m a firm believer in patience. Success doesn’t happen overnight. It takes a lot of hard work and patience to bring your dreams to a reality.

In fear or joy? - Since I already know I’m going to die I would do stuff that I would normally be afraid to do. Like jumping out of airplanes, going swimming with sharks, driving my car at 140 in a 60 mile zone. JUST HAVE NO FEAR AT ALL.

Terrance started a fight with me that morning over my use of water. He said I should pay the water bill, along with the rent, because I was bigger than him and used more of it. It was early and I was cranky from not having much sleep the night before. He had his friends over for an all night party on a Tuesday. None of them had jobs, so no one had anywhere to be but where they were. I didn’t feel like hearing what he had to say, so I replied with a smart quick tongue, hoping to silence him.

“That’s the stupidest thing you’ve said to date. I guess you expect me to pay the cable, gas, light, and phone bill as well since your pathetic ass isn’t man enough to do it. Shut up, Terrance. It’s too early for your mouth.”

My response caught him off guard because his reply to me was that of silence. I started walking towards the bathroom to get dressed when I heard him running up behind me. My face was met with his head when I turned towards him. The fool head butted me. His exact target was my eye. I fell backwards on the floor and grabbed my face in pain. Gray stars and filthy vultures circled my face and moaned a song of gloom; it hurt so bad.

While I was on the floor crying and screaming how sick I thought Terrance was, he started kicking me in my back, sides, and face, while yelling in crazy man lingo.
“Don’t you ever talk back to me, you fat, sloppy bitch! Your stupid ass is going to pay every bill that comes into this house whether I have a job or not! Now get your sorry ass up and fix me some breakfast!”

He stopped kicking me and walked away muttering words under his breath that only a psychotic nut would understand. I managed to get up and went into the bathroom to look at my face. My left eye watched my right eye swell up, and my right eye noticed my left eye was red and puffy. My black eyes were on their way.

I took my nightgown off and looked at my stomach in the mirror. It was bruised and I imagined my back was, as well. There was no need to look because I’d felt this way before. I wanted to call into work, but I was already absent two days that week and couldn’t afford to miss anymore.My right eyeball was no longer visible, and I’d have to wear a pair of light colored shades all day as I’d done before. I was at the point of not even bothering to put on makeup to try and cover it up, knowing what I was hiding, as did everyone else.

I’m not sure who was who, but I came out of the bathroom to see Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde standing in my living room in the form of Terrance’s body.
“Hey, baby. I have some interviews to go on today, so I’ll drop you off at work. I put your purse and jacket in the car, and I want to stop and grab you some breakfast, so hurry your sweet self up.”

He walked out the door and I stood in the middle of the room waiting for an answer. Someone needed to tell me Terrance was sick and I wasn’t the person that had his cure. Sure, I had the answer; I just didn’t feel like talking to myself.

1. Who is Gerald Rice? He's a dead body rotting in the corpse of a rusted out Grand Am in the backyard of an abandoned house in Highland Park. Hey look- I just found him that way, I didn't do it. But me? I'm a guy who did a lot of different things before finally coming back to my passion. I'm a father and a husband too. I'm a lifelong Detroiter where ever I go. I'm a grateful child of a broken home.

2. What are you passionate about? Books. Reading was my first passion, writing is my second. No, horror movies were my first passion. Then reading, then writing. I started watching horror movies when I was about 4. My mother introduced me to them. She was a huge Stephen King fan and she was really the reason I started reading for pleasure. I was in the Horizons Upward Bound program when I decided to start writing as a hobby. I had a creative writing class where we all had to write a story and read it aloud to the class. There was something so addictive about having a captive audience listening to something I created. I wasn't really that good at first, I think I can be bold enough to say I was pretty bad. But I never stopped wanting it. I committed myself to learning from the books I read. People like Stephen King (obviously), F. Paul Wilson, Al Sarantonio, Ethan Black, most recently David Wong and a host of others.

3. Why should the world take notice of you? I'm different. Not that I'm the only unique voice, but I think all unique voices should be heard. You won't pick up another book on the shelves like mine. I've always been the 'what's next' or 'what's new' guy. If I'm writing about monsters I want it to be THAT monster you think of when you lie awake at night. I want to push any genre I write in, to create someone else's favorite or most hated character. I'm not a black writer; I'm a writer who just so happens to be black. Just like I'm a writer who just so happens to have feet. It's a part of me, a major part even, but not my sum total.


4. Old school music or todays Hip Hop and R&B? I'm going to say both and neither. My tastes are weird. There's a lot of old stuff I just never dug and a lot of old stuff I only liked because my parents liked it and a lot of stuff I just got burned out on. And whenever I had control of the radio in the car I was always flipping past stuff other people probably liked. My mama used to have nights where she would let me or my brother pick the music. We could go through her extensive record collection and play a dozen or so songs. I picked stuff like 'Electric Avenue' (back when nobody was listening to Eddie Grant except like 5 people and we were 3 of them), Billy Ocean and Rod Stewart (don't pretend like 'Da Ya Think I'm Sexy' wasn't the jam). Stevie Wonder is my all-time favorite artist but I can't STAND 'Ribbon in the Sky' anymore; give me 'Do I Do' or 'Creepin'' (I also can only listen to like 2 Luther Vandross songs and his version isn't one of them).

But the new guys, I don't know, I don't keep up with music like I used to so it's tough to name who I like. Jaheim, I think his name is, every time I hear him I have to turn him off. I liked 'Ain't Leavin' Without You' back when George Benson called it 'Gimme the Night'. But I'm a huge fan of Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Corinne Bailey Rae. Some Alicia Keys is okay and Rihanna is like junk food. I know it's not really that good, but I can't help myself.

Expect me to pick at you if you let me know something bugs you (it's a Rice trait--we're jerks like that)

1. Who is Timothy N. Stelly? - I am a burgeoning poet, aspiring screenwriter, novelist and essayist. My first love is satire, but sci-fi had become my bread and butter. I am a student of writing, still learning something new and interesting about my craft.

3. Why should the world take notice of you? - I'm not a cookie-cutter sci-fi writer nor of any other genre. In HUMAN TRIAL, which is technically sci-fi, the story focus on human relations and the idea that the biggest threat to man is man, and not an unseen enemy. Even in my upcoming novel, A JUNKIE'S PARADISE, which deals with a viral outbreak, the focus is on human dynamics and man's willingness to exploit other men for their own survival.


4. Vanilla, Chocolate or Neopolitan? - Chocolate, rather its ice cream or ladies. I love my beautiful black women. No one has ever loved me stronger than those special beings.


5.What are your life rules? - Think before speaking or acting and accept responsibility for the consequences of both; Never criticize anything you don't understand, can't replace or improve. I also live by the mantra, "To whom much is given, much is expected."


6.You are the last man on earth with Coretta Scott King and Rosa Parks. Who would you choose to procreate with and why? - Both are beautiful and strong, but I think Coretta was younger, so I'd opt for the one who will be spry the longest.

8. Do you forgive regardless of what someone has done to you? Yes. It takes time, however. When I examine the offender's track record, I find they usually have a history of doing dirt, so I pray that there be distance between me and anyone who wants to hurt me, my family or who harbors ill will toward me. That prayer is always answered. Pver the years I've lost quite a few (so-called) friends and ex's. So be it.

9. If you could change your past would you? - In two areas. I graduated at sixteen, but when I attended college, I never focused on a major. If I could go back to that age, I would have attended a southern black college so I could see that part of the country and spend my youth surrounded by the folks I love most. I would have also waited to become a father. I was 18 when I became a father and by the time I was 23 had four kids and was making just enough to get us by.

1. Who is Brooklyn Darkchild? Brooke??? She so Cra-zy! No really: Brooke is That Girl who's gonna Tell It Like It Is, even if she sticks her foot in it sometimes. Don't ask me a question if you don't really wanna know the answer. Some people find that hard to deal with, but the last thing I want to do is hurt anybody's feelings. I love everybody--well, today anyway. Like all artists I can be quirky and unconventional at times, but I'm really basically a homebody. My family is Everything to me.


2. What are you passionate about? Writing. Good writing. A good book can Take You Places, when I was a kid books were all I had. I'm also passionate about children. They're a heavy responsibility; too many people don't take that into consideration before having them.

4. In one year where will you be? In one year my youngest will be seventeen: I'd like to think I'll be Free. But who knows? There are so many places to go, so many things to do... it's hard to make up my mind. I guess I'll just Go With The Flow and see where the Lord will Take Me. Anywhere He decides will be Good.

Wherever He Is

Wherever He Is, he is. He is everywhere and so is he. I believe, so I am with Him and we are always together. I miss my daddy. But when you believe in Him it’s alright. I believe – I’m alright.

So why the doubt? Why do I refuse to understand? Why do I have to remind myself to step out on faith? Faith, belief…Lawd help me. Should you believe what you can’t see or touch? Should you believe what you feel? I believe what I feel. Faith.

Death. Death to me equals disappearing without a trace. How is that possible? My father was here. He held me, he talked to me, he laughed with me, he loved me and now he’s gone. The trace is memories. No one can disappear without a trace. There is something there, but maybe we haven’t seen it yet. When he first passed away I couldn’t remember anything. All the dreams I had were jumbled and he was never in them. Now I see him clearly – my trace is abundant.

Confusion. Confusion equals chaos, which leads to fear. We fear the unknown. Do you believe what you don’t know? Faith; just hold on to faith.

It was good to go back to Florida and talk to my daddy. A weird thought came to me. I felt I could dig deep in the dirt and open his casket so he would see me. STOOPID. I got a grip and just talked. I talk to him a lot, but talking in person always outweighs distance. I know he heard me. He hears me each and every time. I wonder will I see him again. When we die do we change? Do we forget? Do we still love and remember who we left behind? When I die will I see him? Will he want to see me? I believe. I’m still his babygirl, so the answer is yes.

Doubt always gets on my nerves. It thinks it can shut me down since I don’t have my captain here giving me pep talks. Faith beats doubt all the time; straight flush, gin rummy, go fish. Whatever you choose to play, choose faith as your teammate - you’ll never lose.

I took a picture of his headstone to see his name. I traced it and cried. My Doobah said, “Hey, that’s my last name. He has the same last name as me.” Thank God for shades. He was here, he is here. We say no more pain or suffering and that’s what I lean towards. My daddy was sick. I didn’t want him to be sick. We say that’s The Master’s Plan. Believe that His Plans never fail. Pain ceases, hurt subsides, but memories last forever.

I feel good….better. If I only have two dollars in my pocket I can make it. Yah’ll can help a sista by going to my website…Anyway…

1. Who is Nanette Buchanan? I am a Christian, a wife, mother, grandmother, Senior Corrections Officer, an author and child advocate. I currently reside in New Jersey. I am an Instructor at the New Jersey Department of Corrections Training Academy. As an author, I published my first novel in 2007 and today I now have three published fictional novels and an e-book of poetry. I am the hostess of ASA Blog (Authors Supporting Authors) Talk Radio and the co-host of Angel Wings Publication Blog Talk Radio. A show which advocates for Domestic Violence victims.


2. What are you passionate about? My writing has been an important part of my life. I began while attending Rutgers University in New Jersey, and never imagined that it would be more to me than simply putting a pen to pad. I pen because it has soothed me, been a force to vent, rejoice and assist in many aspects in my life. I pen for enjoyment and as an inspiration to others. I pen because I realize it is more than just a hobby and it consumes me even when I am not actively writing. I pen because I love it.


3. Why should the world take notice of you? I would love for the world to take notice of me, but I feel I would better serve the world or people through my words. Being an instructor, author and hostess on the Blog Radio shows has given me a route to make a change, express the need for positive solutions, and share new ideas and information.


4. In one year where will you be? LOL....still working full time. I have a few years left before retiring. I will be a Sergeant within the next year, however I will be looking to make the rank of Lieutenant before retiring. I also want my publishing company to be working diligently for myself and other authors who wish to publish their work through I Pen Books.


5.What are your life rules? Live each day fulfilling a dream. Being optimistic doesn't mean ignoring what is negative....understand it is the negative that becomes obstacles and will delay progress. Be healthy mentally, physically and emotionally. You can't progress when stressed, take the time to take care of yourself.


6. What is your $1 and a dream? Reaching a peaceful plateau. There is nothing more rewarding than peace of mind. It soothes the soul, enriches the spirit and controls the heart. For my dollar, I want peace of mind.

I would have started publishing my work earlier in my life. I definitely wouldn't have let others influence me to hesitate or doubt some of the decisions wanted to make.


10. Random thought - If I could have done things differently what other obstacles would I have met? Our dreams eventually becomes a reality. You start building your world on your dreams.

“Luv Me.” by Wanda D. Hudson, sucked me in with her sensual opening piece entitled “Dear Diary” and set the momentum for the rest of this sexy read!
A collection of sensual short stories that you could read during your lunch break or after one of those “Calgon take me away baths”

Ms. Hudson provides the stage for her readers to live vicariously through her character’s lives and erotic fantasies.

A different tasty treat as you encounter each story as no two are alike. Ms Hudson dispensed humor along with lust and originality with each scenario.

You’re bound to find one that will be a favorite. ”DSL”, Room with a View” and “She” are the three that stood out for me.

REVIEW - Wait for Love: A Black Girl's Story - 05/01/10

If you have read the Coldest Winter Ever and Flyy Girl and all of those other hot must reads then you are going to LOVE Wait For Love by Ms. Wanda D. Hudson. Wait For Love is a phenomenal story, which I recommend for ALL women to read regardless of their relationship status. This novel touches upon various situations that every female will embark upon sometime in her life, or come in contact with someone who has encountered some of these circumstances. This quick paced novel is very entertaining, enlightening, and easy to read While reading this novel you cant help but stop and recap about obstacles which you may have faced and how you could have handled them differently or stop to say “Thank God that I’ve never experienced that”. Regardless of who you are, where you come from, and how you were raised you will be able to take something from this novel be it as basic as the fact that you should educate your child about sex and self image, or on the more compound end of the spectrum you may realize the importance of taking one day at a time and waiting for love because as we are reminded in this story patience is truly a virtue.

REVIEW - Wait for Love: A Black Girl's Story 04/15/10

I am love sick and food is the cure

I really enjoyed this novel and felt like I received some answers to the low self-esteem issues. Ms. Hudson will do a number on your emotions with this one. You will want to kill the main character and other times you won’t be able to do anything but laugh because she just seems that dumb. Other times you will only feel compassion for her and want to treat her like she’s your child

We ride shot gun with Lynnette “Lynnde” Lee from the time of eighteen until forty. That may seem like a long time but I have to say it works well. The best of the book is the comic sarcastic commentary that is so on point it’s eerie. Lynnde gives new meaning to the statement “Looking for love in all the wrong places." Her love life goes from bad to worse with each new love interest. Her relationships are turbulent to say the least and through it all she has her cure all….food. Over the years we watch her struggle to keep a man all the while struggling with her weight. While obesity is a real issue in our society, I have yet to see it dealt with in this matter and was pleasantly pleased with the end result.

I recommend this book to all as it’s very insightful and will cause you to do some thinking about folks in your life. I look forward to reading books from Ms. Hudson in the future I love her writing style and the direct talking to the reader is a welcome change, especially because she got it right and predicted what I was thinking.
